Review: Kiss 100 Comedy Clinic

Comedian Quincy - Kiss Comedy ClinicIf you’re looking for a good fix of comedy capers, then Kiss 100’s Comedy Clinic is the place to go. Taking place at the stylish Sway Bar, located a stone’s throw from Holborn; this is the place to find comedic talent offering a night of sheer laughter and entertainment. As you enter the venue thoughts of “Sex and the City” start to spring to mind, with everyone proving exactly how it’s done in the fashion stakes,  and we’re not just talking about the ladies either, the men were looking just as slick!

The evening of Thursday 2nd April 2009, hosted by compere Quincy, featured comedians Markus Birdman, Eddy Brimson and BBC Comedy Awards finalist Ava Vidal. Markus, the first comedian to take to the stage, came across as exceptionally confident and genuinely funny. Ava, who was clearly doing it for the ladies as the only female comedienne, was next up, approaching comedy with an entirely different type of humour; with her extremely dry wit – too dry at times maybe, but still managing to have the crowd in stitches. She spoke about the trials and tribulations of being a mother, and whilst Eddy, (the final comedian of the night), touched on the same subject, he delivered his set in a similar way but with a bit of a twist. He was extremely crass, nevertheless he held it together, keeping the crowd more than entertained.

These acts were interspersed with appearances by the compere, Quincy, who was his usual loud self, reeling out the jokes and keeping the show together.

As a night out this is an event I would recommend you pay a visit. Comedy is always potentially a bit hit-and-miss, but the atmosphere in the room, with the games and the freebies that also form part of the night, make this a fun way to spend a Thursday evening. You can definitely make a night of it, with a great menu on offer, whilst enjoying the interval music during half time. It’s a bit on the pricey side at £15 (or £12.50 if you book online) so not great during credit crunch times, but nevertheless it’s a perfect excuse to kick back, relax and make the most of an enjoyable night out.
