International Women’s Day London Events
International Women’s Day (8 March) celebrates the achievements of women present, past and future. The day is celebrated locally with, may events organised by grassroots movements as well as local authorities. We’ve selected the most interesting London events.
Birds Eye View Film Festival (Thu 4 – Fri 12 March @ ICA / BFI Southbank)
Back for its 6th year, BEV celebrates, champions and showcases women filmmakers. The festival features short and feature films from across the world, with a strong line up of films by women of African descent, such as:
Rough Aunties – Sun 7 & Tue 9 Mar @ ICA
Documentary about Durban’s abused children.
From a Whisper – Wed 10 & Thu 11 Mar @ ICA
After the 1998 bombing of the US Embassy in Nairobi, a teenage girl is searching for her mother.
Kenyan double bill – Thu 11 Mar @ ICA, 6pm
A rare opportunity to see the work of two outstanding Kenyan women filmmakers.

An overview of black British feminist consciousness.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, authors Bernadine Evaristo and Diana Evans talk about their work.
Funny Women Stand Up – Mon 8 Mar @ Leicester Sq Theatre, 8pm
Comedy show that celebrates International Women’s Day 2010. The event supports V-Day’s spotlight campaign to end rape in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Mothers March and Speak Out – Sat 13 Mar, 2 – Sat 13 Mar, 2pm
A march organised in recognition and support for all the work accomplished by women.
